I was born in La Marque, Texas on Aug 13, 1953. My dad worked in construction and my mom was busy raising five of us kids. We spent our first eight years in Corpus Christy, TX and then traveled around the country while dad was building water towers, smoke stack liners, and condensation vessels for nuclear power plants. That means a new city, new state, and a new school approximately every two months.

When my twin sister Jill and I were ready to start high school, mom wanted us to go to one school for those four years. We settled down in Oxford Junction, IA, where our grandmother lived. It was small town, USA—there were twenty students in my graduating class. After graduation I hitchhiked around the country for about a year. I met this cute blond in Port Charlotte while I was working construction on the condos by the cultural center. Essex House, Oxford House. Two years later we married in her hometown of Cape Girardeau, MO on Aug 23, 1975.

Kathy and I traveled around the country working construction until 1983 when we settled in Charlotte County. I started working for Pinch A Penny in 1986 and stayed for 13 years. In 1999 we started our own business. We are blessed with two children who are adults now. Our son works for us in our pool service business and our daughter is a teacher in Tampa. They have both blessed us with one grandson each.

I first began practicing yoga about 2 ½ years ago to improve my mind, body, and golf game as I am faced with an increased number of aches and pains due to aging. I usually practice Gentle and Level 1 classes three times weekly. I feel my body is stronger and my mind is clearer since I’ve started yoga, and my life has been enriched by all the special people I have met through the sanctuary. My favorite pose is Child’s Pose because of its cozy comfort.

I keep coming back to yoga because of The Yoga Sanctuary and everyone in it. We tried several different places locally, and I don’t think I would still be doing yoga if we hadn’t found the Sanctuary.

Life inspires me. I love living. I find inspiration in just about everything. My favorite quote:

“There comes a time in the events of all men that you must take the bull by the tail and face the situation.” —W.C. Fields
