Diwali<\/em>, which\u00a0means\u00a0“row of lights” in Sanskrit,\u00a0is a\u00a0celebration\u00a0in India and around the world\u00a0to honor the\u00a0inextinguishable\u00a0Light within\u00a0all of us.\u00a0 It occurs\u00a0in late\u00a0October\u00a0or early November every year on the New Moon when the two great\u00a0luminaries\u00a0of our solar system are at their weakest influence.\u00a0\u00a0Astrologically,\u00a0Surya<\/em> (the Sun)\u00a0is in its position of\u00a0debilitation in\u00a0Libra every year at this time.\u00a0This means\u00a0our\u00a0solar nature\u2014vision,\u00a0consistent\u00a0power and clarity\u2014is the most difficult to access\u00a0individually\u00a0and\u00a0collectively\u00a0on Diwali<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0Chandra<\/em> (the Moon)\u00a0is also at its weakest as it joins\u00a0Surya <\/em>in the sky, for\u00a0it is completely dark\u00a0on\u00a0this day of the lunation cycle.\u00a0 Consequently, the light of\u00a0consciousness\u00a0is most difficult to feel on this\u00a0day.<\/p>\n

This may seem counter-intuitive\u00a0at\u00a0first, but although the energies of the\u00a0Sun\u00a0and Moon create life on Earth,\u00a0it\u00a0is our\u00a0own Inner Light that\u00a0ultimately\u00a0dispels\u00a0the darkness of doubt, confusion, fear and\u00a0ignorance and allows us to evolve spiritually.\u00a0The goal of all sadhana<\/em>\u00a0is to gain access to that\u00a0Light within ourselves.\u00a0 An important story of the\u00a0Ramayana correlating to the ceremony of Diwali<\/em>\u00a0tells of the happy\u00a0return\u00a0of the King (Surya<\/em>)\u00a0and Queen (Chandra<\/em>), after years spent in exile and suffering,\u00a0along a path\u00a0and\u00a0row of lights lit by the villagers. Festivities on this day\u00a0include sweets and fireworks, as\u00a0lamps are lit in\u00a0homes,\u00a0offices and temples in worship\u00a0and\u00a0reverence\u00a0to\u00a0the Light that\u00a0is\u00a0not subject to time, space and causation.
